The Manitoba Electrical Museum & Education Centre is set in a working substation and offers an entertaining way to facilitate learning in many subject areas, at any grade level.
Students will be captivated and engaged in a setting where they experience the wonders of electricity first-hand and where artifacts, exhibits and demonstrations provide a unique learning experience.
We offer specially designed curriculum-based programming with measurable learning outcomes for Grade 6 and Grade 9 students.
Grade 6 Science Program
This two hour guided tour and classroom presentation supports Science and Cluster 3: Electricity. The fee is $5 per student. There is no charge for attending teachers, support staff, and parent helpers.
Grade 9 Science Program
This guided tour and classroom presentation is an hour and a half long and supports Senior 1 Science and Cluster 3: The Nature of Electricity. The fee is $5 per student. There is no charge for attending teachers, support staff, and parent helpers.
All Grade Levels
Guided tours for all other grades and home-schooled students are $5 per student. There is no charge for teachers, support staff, and parent helpers. The program will be tailored to your students’ educational requirements and interest.
What students will experience and see:
The history of hydroelectric development in Manitoba
The impact of electricity on daily life
Safety around electricity
The transformation of motion into electricity and electricity into motion – current and static electricity
The function of insulators and conductors
Renewable and non-renewable sources of energy – energy consumption and conservation
Monday to Friday – Morning or afternoon by arrangement.
We can accommodate up to 25 students. Large groups may be divided into smaller groups with different starting points in the tour so your group completes the tour at the same time. Please book three weeks in advance and provide two date options. We require five business days notice to cancel or reschedule.
